LIMA, PERU (Nov 14, 2018) -

The American College of Cardiology will host the ACC Latin America Conference in partnership with the Peruvian Society of Cardiology in Lima, Peru, on November 16-17, 2018, bringing together top experts to review and discuss new, relevant cardiovascular science pertinent to the region. This is the first time the conference will be held in South America.

Hector Michelena, MD, FACC, and José Manuel Sosa Rosado, MD, FACC, will serve as co-chairs of the conference, which will feature original, educational content to meet the needs of the cardiovascular care team throughout the region. The conference will provide a platform for cardiovascular professionals to increase their knowledge in important areas of practice such as prevention, coronary artery disease, valvular disease, heart failure and more.

"Achieving the ACC's mission to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health around the world requires that we recognize different regions have different needs," Michelena said. "ACC Latin America Conference was crafted by global and local experts so cardiovascular care team professionals from around the region can take what they learned home and use it to transform their communities, we come to inspire and be inspired."

Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, MACC, editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, is the featured speaker at the ACC Latin America Conference. Fuster's lecture at the start of the second day will examine strategies to move away from evaluating and managing heart disease to prevention of heart disease. Fuster will also give a special address during the ACC's Third Annual Latin America Conference Closing Celebration.

Other key sessions specifically crafted for the region include The Power of Transformation: A Path to High-Quality Heart Care, The Power of Data: A Path to Evidence-Based Excellence, and a panel discussion on leadership.
