Katie Berlacher, MD, FACC, Named Next ACC Annual Scientific Session Vice Chair

The ACC has announced Katie L. Berlacher, MD, MS, FACC, as the next vice chair of the College's Annual Scientific Session. Berlacher will serve as vice chair for ACC.23 and ACC.24, and will transition to chair for ACC.25 and ACC.26.

"The College has an awesome opportunity to lead global cardiovascular education, impacting care delivery, population health, scientific discovery – and so much more," Berlacher said. "I am both thrilled and humbled by the appointment as vice chair and am looking forward to working with the team as we build annual scientific sessions that are grounded in science, inspired by innovation and focused on equity."

Berlacher is assistant professor of medicine at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) where she is program director of cardiovascular fellowship and associate chief of education for the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute. She has a long history of involvement with the ACC, including extensive involvement in the College's education programs. Berlacher currently serves as chair of the Lifelong Learning and Oversight Committee and was previously chair of the Faculty Development Work Group. Berlacher has also been a member of the Annual Scientific Session Planning Committee since 2019.

The Annual Scientific Session vice chair and chair are responsible for leading the development of ACC's flagship meeting.

ACC.22 will be held April 2-4, 2022, in Washington, DC, and will be led by current Annual Scientific Session Chair Pamela Bowe Morris, MD, FACC, and Vice Chair Douglas E. Drachman, MD, FACC. The deadline for abstract and case submissions is Wednesday, Oct. 13.
