Impaired exercise capacity (a hallmark symptom of chronic heart failure) improves after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation, though it remains substantially below the exercise capacity of cardiac transplant patients and healthy same-aged individuals. This article examines whether LVAD implantation improves daily physical activity levels when compared to a group of patients with similarly advanced chronic heart failure but without LVADs.
