ACC Provides New Analysis, Guidance on CMS ICD Determination

The ACC recently provided an analysis regarding the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) new national coverage determination (NCD) policy governing implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation for Medicare fee-for-service patients. The new NCD, released by CMS mid-February, includes developments in several areas – including shared decision-making, clinical indications and data collection – that ACC members should consider. The NCD is effective immediately, but it will take several months until coding and documentation instructions are issued to Medicare contractors and providers. Read more on ACC.org. In addition, an on-demand webinar developed by leaders from the ACC and Heart Rhythm Society discusses the policy and offers information about meeting the new shared decision-making requirement using an evidence-based tool.
