JACC FIT/Early Career Page: Teaching Tomorrow's Teachers

As a result of ACC's Teaching Tomorrow's Teachers (3T) program, future Fellows in Training (FIT) and early career teachers may be more prepared to approach the future of medical education, according to an FIT/Early Career Page publish June 3 in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Craig M. Alpert, MD, FACC, et al., discuss this novel approach in which they incorporated trainees aspiring for careers as future clinician educators into the framework of an existing CME course (ACC's Annual Big Sky Cardiovascular Update course); provided formal instruction in educational methods and practice; and created a new community of cardiology FITs and early career professionals dedicated to education. In a response to the column, Frederick L. Grover, MD, FACC, comments that "this program allows FITs to evaluate their own presentations and the presentations of their colleagues with the leaders of the course, so that there is 360-degree feedback." He adds, "Alpert and his colleagues, along with the ACC, are to be congratulated for this excellent effort to fill a gap in training in traditional fellowship and residency programs." Read more.
