Do not wait until you are up for a promotion to update your CV. At the end of each month, review your calendar, PubMed citations, and current or pending grants. It is easy to forget about all the "little" committees you are on and ways you serve your academic community, but remember to keep track as they add up and are what the committee will look for when you are up for promotion.
