Health Equity Hub: Amplifying, Engaging and Empowering

Achieving a culture of equitable care is a strategic priority for the ACC and embedded in the College's Core Values. Underscoring the critical importance of this effort, the Health Equity Hub (Booth #2503) returns to the Expo for its second year, offering a dedicated space for learning, networking and courageous conversations around tangible solutions that will move us closer to eliminating disparities and ensuring equitable cardiovascular care for all.

An inspiring lineup of sessions featuring thought leaders, cardiovascular experts and other stakeholders is planned for the Health Equity Stage. Topics of discussion include access to care for rural populations, challenges to advanced cardiac imaging in underserved populations, cultural competency and health care access barriers, retail pharmacy deserts, food is medicine, peripheral artery disease (PAD) disparities, barriers and challenges to heart transplantation, LGBTQ+ health care, maternal health equity, and more.

In addition, attendees can take part in a Virtual Reality Health Equity experience and interact with a revamped Health Equity Heat Map that provides a localized look at the burden of cardiovascular disease in the U.S. and countries around the world. The Hub also features a kiosk spotlighting ACC's Caring Hearts Initiative including patient and clinician materials on PAD and high blood pressure.

Other not-to-miss activities include a reception recognizing the 50-year anniversary of the Association of Black Cardiologists as well as a panel discussion with ACC leadership and industry partners on "Clinical Trial Diversity and the Role of Health Equity," both of which are taking place Sunday, April 7.

"Addressing health equity is not merely a goal but a responsibility that must be embraced," says ACC's Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer Melvin R. Echols, MD, FACC. "Achieving the goals of improved patient lived experience, improved population health, reduced health care costs, and improved clinician and care team well-being, requires innovative and impactful strategies that prioritize inclusivity, diversity and equity. It is essential for every patient to receive the highest standard of care, and by collaborating, we can make this aspiration a reality."
