NEW YORK (Sep 18, 2025) -
The American College of Cardiology, NCD Alliance and World Heart Federation, with support from Viatris, are hosting The State of the Global Health Workforce in conjunction with the 80th United Nations General Assembly to underscore the urgent need for investment in the global health workforce to address the rising burden of NCDs, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
The Fourth UN High-Level Meeting will take place at UN Headquarters in New York, focusing on “Equity and integration: transforming lives and livelihoods through leadership and action on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and the promotion of mental health and well-being.” A central outcome of the meeting will be the adoption of a political declaration setting ambitious targets and commitments for NCD prevention, control and mental health support through 2050.
The State of the Global Health Workforce event, moderated by ACC President Christopher Kramer, MD, FACC, explores the critical link between financing, workforce capacity and NCD care and is designed to foster multi-sectoral collaboration and policy innovation around sustainable, scalable solutions for ensuring equitable, high-quality care for people living with NCDs worldwide.
Keynote speaker Tom Frieden, MD, MPH, CEO of Resolve to Save Lives, will give an overview of the state of the global health workforce and panel discussants will present key findings of two health workforce reports and share personal experiences working in the community health setting.
