The 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) is centered on the theme "Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights."
In line with this commitment, the Fourth UN High-Level Meeting will take place at UN Headquarters in New York, focusing on "Equity and integration: transforming lives and livelihoods through leadership and action on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and the promotion of mental health and well-being." A central outcome of the meeting will be the adoption of a political declaration setting ambitious targets and commitments for NCD prevention, control, and mental health support through 2050.
To support these efforts, the ACC is hosting two side events during the UNGA meeting.
The State of the Global Health Workforce
This UNGA side event, hosted by the ACC, NCD Alliance, and World Heart Federation, with support from Viatris, explores the critical link between financing, workforce capacity and NCD care. Centered around the theme of the health workforce, the event is designed to foster multi-sectoral collaboration and policy innovation around sustainable, scalable solutions for ensuring equitable, high-quality care for people living with NCDs worldwide.

ABOUT THE EVENT
This event will discuss data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2023 study, the largest and most comprehensive source of health data with nearly 16,500 expert contributors in 168 countries.
During the event, speakers will present the most up-to-date data for 204 countries and territories, and discuss trends observed from 1990 to 2023 at the regional, national, and subnational levels. The GBD study serves as an evidence-based resource for policymakers and other decision-makers seeking to mitigate the global health impact of cardiovascular risk factors and other NCDs.
This work directly supports progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3.4, by equipping stakeholders with the data needed to reduce premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention, treatment, and health system strengthening.
