The Wael Al Mahmeed Dedication to Young Leaders program was created to train and support the next generation of cardiovascular leaders internationally. This is an essential step in reducing the burden of cardiovascular disease worldwide.

Through the Wael Al Mahmeed Dedication to Young Leaders the ACC hopes to:

  1. Engage with young cardiologists to encourage research and scientific advancement.
  2. Ensure young cardiologists are receiving the training required to be influential leaders in their institutions.
  3. Expand opportunities to engage with ACC through strong partnerships with ACC chapters around the globe and specifically at ACC's Annual Scientific Session.

Dr. Al Mahmeed has graciously sponsored the winners from the abstract competition at the ACC Middle East Regional Conference to attend the ACC Annual Scientific Session. The winning posters are automatically accepted to the Annual Scientific Session, where they have the opportunity to once again present their work to a global audience. This opportunity focuses on showcasing the research from Early Career physicians and encouraging participation in the most prestigious cardiovascular congress around the world.

International Abstract WinnersInternational Abstract Winners

The Wael Al Mahmeed Global Leadership Institute brings together a group of about 25 mid-career physicians from across the globe to participate in a two-day intensive training program. The participants are chosen from ACC's 42 international chapters, representing more than 80 countries. The attendees are recognized as up-and-coming leaders in their national cardiology societies and institutions.

Participants in this two-day program learn from ACC Leaders including the current Presidential Team, past presidents, ACC CEO, and ACC staff. They have the opportunity to learn how one becomes a leader, different leadership types, including recognizing their authentic leadership style, discuss unique problems and solutions, learn from each other's experiences, and how to problem solve. Participants will depart with practical tools on how to be an effective leader in transforming cardiovascular care and improving heart health.

2023 Global Leadership Institute2023 Global Leadership Institute

Decoding the latest science at ACC Annual Scientific Session promotes research internationally by engaging our international members and setting up our next generation of researchers for success. Participants receive the necessary tools as well as the opportunity to network with fellow researchers. This two day in-person program at the ACC Annual Scientific Session allows FIT and early career researchers to discuss with ACC Leaders the science they saw, heard, and read during the meeting. It is an opportunity to learn what makes good research from expert researchers across ACC. Participants can also network with editors of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) and learn more about being published in ACC's suite of 10 JACC Journals.
