Abhinav Goyal, MD, MHS, FACC, shares the lessons Emory Healthcare is learning as they “re-open” their doors in Atlanta, GA: 1) It takes more time and planning to ramp back up than to turn off the switch; 2) In case of another COVID-19 surge, a resilience plan is needed that will allow for ramping back up their COVID capacity and ramping back down elective cases; 3) Even in the midst of “re-opening,” practice safety must continue to be paramount, including the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when treating COVID-19 patients and social distancing and masking in non-COVID areas.
