New Year, New Opportunities

Welcome to the new year stretching out ahead of us like a blank canvas waiting to be painted, created with fresh new ideas and opportunities.

In this month's cover story, we look at five trends that are poised to transform cardiovascular medicine in the year ahead, from prevention to detection to diagnosis to treatment.

We also look back at transformative advances in cardiovascular medicine, some of which provide a foundation for those emerging trends, in a feature on a hypothetical Nobel award for the field of cardiology.

Also in this issue, learn from experts in the cardio-oncology field on how to optimize the care of cardiovascular patients undergoing cardio-toxic therapy, and about the evolution in the treatment of structural heart disease and the value of the collaborative heart teams from experts in interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery.

In addition, learn how to address TAVR thrombosis, and how a well-designed registry with parameters for leadership diversity, enrollment benchmarks and more can increase the diversity in enrollment of patients with peripheral artery disease.

Don't miss the coverage of science from AHA 2024 and more in JACC in a Flash – and read about a new partnership between JACC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to provide cardiovascular clinicians a voice in shaping priorities for postmarket evidence generation in cardiovascular disease. Click here to read more and submit your research questions by Feb. 14.

Advocacy is crucial to ACC's Mission and this month's Heart of Health Policy reviews the top 10 highlights in 2024 and sets the stage for priorities in the year ahead.

We also call your attention to Prioritizing Health, which explains the consequences of ultra-processed foods, more often a large part of the diet of our patients and one we need to understand for better counseling patients on alternatives.

Looking ahead, ACC.25 is coming soon – March 29-31 – in Chicago. Register now and be sure to be there for the much-anticipated Late-Breaking Clinical Trials and Featured Clinical Research, as well as a can't miss 75th Anniversary Gala being held on March 28 at the iconic Field Museum in Chicago. Celebrate ACC's 75 years of transforming cardiovascular care for all and help raise funds to build a bright future for cardiology.

Start planning your personalized program for ACC.25 using the online program planner on ACCScientificSession.org, as well as explore abstracts, Keynotes and more. Be sure to check the meeting page at the end of January for this year's LBCTs and we'll be back in March with dedicated content to help with planning in the final weeks leading up to the meeting.
