The American College of Cardiology will recognize three early career cardiologists with the Hani Najm Global Scholar Award Observership Program during Convocation at ACC's Annual Scientific Session (ACC.24), taking place April 6-8, 2024 in Atlanta.

The Hani Najm Global Scholar Award Observership Program was first introduced at the Saudi Heart Association Annual Conference in 2020 and became a key part of ACC’s 2020 Campaign for the Future. The program encourages the sharing of knowledge between international cardiology professionals, focusing on early career cardiologists in the Middle East and North Africa. Awardees are given the opportunity to elevate their training through its Observership Program, where participants shadow practicing cardiologists at a U.S. hospital. This year’s winners are:

  • Kelvina Ernest Masava, MMED, Dodoma, Tanzania
  • Muhammad Azam Shah, MBBS, FACC, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Farhan Memon, MBBS, Muscat, Oman

Hani K. Najm, MD, MSc, FACC, is a member of the ACC Board of Trustees and is the past chair of the ACC’s Assembly of International Governors. Najm is the chair of pediatric and adult congenital heart surgery at Cleveland Clinic.

“I am honored to sponsor this award, which encourages the sharing of knowledge between international clinicians to combat the devastating impact of cardiovascular disease. Through the Observership Program, awardees have the opportunity to shadow cardiologists at a U.S. hospital and elevate their training in their specialty. Congrats to all three awardees!” Najm said.

The Hani Najm Global Scholar Award Observership Program is currently scheduled to be awarded annually from 2022-2025.
