New Features and Functionality for Your SAP

Thank you for enrolling in the CMP!  We're writing to let you know of a few important updates for 2022:

  1. Yearly Updates & New CMP Topics Now Available. Each February, the CMP SAPs will be updated with new science, guidelines and trials that were released during the previous year, and these updates are now available in your SAP. You may now begin answering the practice questions for this year's CMP topic(s).

You can always identify the year's CMP topic(s) by looking at your SAP dashboard; the CMP topic icons will be in a dark blue and have "CMP" in the upper right corner.

  1. Chapters have been reorganized by clinical topic rather than by learning format. You can now find related text and video presentations right next to each other.
  2. Credit Has Been Reset: Along with the updates mentioned above, ACC has reset the credit for everything within the SAP so you can start fresh for the year; this means that your progress from the previous year is no longer available. If you want to claim credit, simply answer any of the newly published questions.
  3. The 7-hour learning engagement requirement has been removed!  You can now spend as much or as little time as you like "engaging" in the CMP topic(s) each year. The only thing you're required to do before taking a Performance Assessment is score 70% or better on the CMP topic(s)' practice questions.
  4. The time limit for Electrophysiology Performance Assessments has been extended to 3 hours to accommodate the lengthy question stems and multiple images within questions in this specialty. The time limit for Performance Assessments in Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology, and Heart Failure will remain at 2 hours.

Accommodations for test takers with disabilities are available. For more information, click here.
  5. Performance Assessments (PA) for 2022 will occur in the second half of the year and you will now have 9 days – including 2 consecutive weekends – to take each of them. The previously scheduled PA dates have been expanded accordingly; please note the new dates below.

    2022 CMP Performance Assessment Dates
    • IV /EP /HF:  Aug. 13 – 21, 2022 & Nov. 12 – 20, 2022
    • Cardiovascular Disease:  Oct. 8 – 16, 2022 & Dec. 3 – 11, 2022
  6. Who Needs to Pass a CMP Performance Assessment in 2022? Due to the pandemic, ABIM extended MOC requirements through December 31, 2022. This means that anyone with an assessment requirement due in 2020, 2021 or 2022 needs to take and pass one (1) CMP Performance Assessment (PA) across those three years. If you have already passed a CMP PA in 2020 or 2021, you are not required to pass a CMP PA in 2022. If you have not yet passed a CMP PA in 2020 or 2021, you still have two more chances to pass in 2022.
