The ACC's self-assessment product (SAP) collection helps cardiovascular specialists stay at the top of their professional game by providing comprehensive and regularly updated coverage of the field in a user-friendly format. To that end, the College is seeking a US/ABIM board-certified Fellow of the ACC as a new innovations editor for a two-year term to advise on the SAPs. The editor will collaborate with the editor-in-chief, editorial board and ACC staff to develop content, advance the College's educational mission and explore new channels for growth. Scope of Self-Assessment (SAP) Products

The SAP collection is comprised of: ACCSAP (general cardiology), CathSAP (interventional cardiology), EP SAP (electrophysiology), Heart Failure SAP (heart failure), EchoSAP (echocardiography) and ACHD SAP (adult congenital heart disease). This comprehensive collection of SAPs supports the tacit position that the College is the professional home of all cardiovascular specialists. Cardiovascular specialists use SAPs for a variety of reasons such as studying for the initial Board certification exam, staying up to date in the latest cardiovascular knowledge, earning CME/MOC credits and points, and maintaining their board certification for applicable specialties (ACCSAP, EP SAP, CathSAP, and HF SAP).

Major Duties/Responsibilities of the Innovations Editor

  1. Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief and the SAP Editorial Board to understand the current SAP format and recommend improvements for the Editorial Board to consider. The initial focus will be on ACCSAP.
  2. Advise on strategy for enhancing SAP content to ensure continued relevancies for all users, but especially for early career cardiologists. Enhancements could include but are not limited to: the use of new technologies or formats, expansion of video content, use of highly compelling illustrations, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate and enhance educational content.
  3. Provide recommendations for leveraging social media to drive SAP sales and engagement.  Work with ACC staff to post on ACC social media accounts and post using their own social media accounts.  
  4. Continually monitor the current market for online educational products and innovations and share insights with the Editorial Board.
  5. Work with the Editor-in-Chief and the SAP Editorial Board to create and maintain standards by which content will be developed.
  6. Participate in regular calls with the CMP/SAP Editorial Board.

Required Qualifications

  1. US/ABIM Board certified in Cardiovascular Disease and a Fellow of the ACC.
  2. No more than 10 years removed from General Cardiology initial certification.
  3. Able to make a two-year time commitment and may apply for reappointment after the initial two-year commitment.
  4. Able to meet the time commitment that the position demands, including;
    • Active participation at quarterly editorial calls (managed by ACC staff),
    • Other scheduled calls and meetings during each year of tenure.
  5. Experience in the design of continuing professional development activities in cardiovascular education.
  6. Experience with web-based interactive experiential teaching modalities and demonstrated learning outcomes.
  7. Understanding of effective teaching methodologies for adult learning, with a focus on active learning and the preferences of early career cardiologists.
  8. Solution-oriented with expertise solving last minute complex programmatic challenges.
  9. Ability to work in a collaborative partnership with ACC staff to develop a respectful team environment throughout the tenure of the position.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Experience with implementing creative solutions to enhance the learning experience for learners engaging with online lectures, videos, illustrations and other visually engaging educational formats.
  2. Experience with leveraging various social media platforms to engage cardiovascular specialists in educational content.
  3. Familiarity with the use of AI in generating educational content.
  4. Able to provide an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the current SAP educational framework and describe changes that could be implemented, emphasizing creative ways to enhance the educational experience for early cardiologists.
