ACC Educator: Advanced Concepts
The American College of Cardiology (ACC) Educator: Advanced Concepts course is a master class in educational leadership open exclusively to graduates of the ACC's Emerging Faculty Leadership Academy course. This educational experience takes place synchronously and asynchronously from March 2025 to Dec. 2025, with an in-person workshop on April 25-26, 2025, at Heart House in Washington, DC. The application deadline is January 8, 2025.
Course Goals
This exclusive experience is designed to elevate your knowledge, skills and attributes as a high-performing educator. The interactive course will feature presentations by both faculty and participants, offering a unique opportunity for real-time feedback from both educational experts and participant-colleagues. Similar to Emerging Faculty, you will receive your topics to be taught prior to the face-to-face course.
Through participation in this experience, you will actively learn about and receive support in the adoption of:
- Evidence-Based Teaching Methods: Immersion in curriculum design, delivery and evaluation using evidence-based methods
- Educational Technology Exploration: Identifying and navigating the evolving digital learning ecosystem
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Integration: Weaving diversity, equity and inclusion into every aspect of education design and delivery
- Positive Interactions and Diversity Management: Fostering positive interactions among learners
- Psychologically Safe Learning Environments: Creating safe spaces through trust-building and role-modeling vulnerability
- Advocacy For ACC Educational Activities: Becoming an advocate for ACC educational opportunities
- Networking: Connecting with internal and external stakeholders to champion transformative education
The educational journey will kick off in March with a live webinar and includes an in-person workshop designed on actively building your knowledge and skill, while also offering dedicated time for networking. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to apply your training by serving as coaches and mentors for the next cohort in 2026.

Overall Timeline and Estimated Time Commitment
- January 8, 2025: Application Deadline
- February 2025: Applicant selection complete
- Mid-March 2025: Kick off webinar and review of assignments for in-person course [1.50 hours]
- Early April 2025: Discussion of teaching assignments for in-person course [1 hour]
- April 25-26, 2025: In-person workshop at Heart House [tentatively 1 p.m. ET on Friday through 1 p.m. ET on Saturday]
- September 2025: Follow-up touch point 1 of 2 [1.5 hours]
- December 2025: Follow-up touch point 2 of 2 [1.5 hours]
- Spring 2026: Serve as a mentor to the next course cohort [3 hours]
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must have completed the Emerging Faculty Leadership Academy Course and be a current ACC member in good standing.

Selection Process
A member-based group comprised of leaders of this course, as well as other course chairs for the ACC Educator Portfolio, will review applications and make the final selection of participants. A key aspect of the applicant review process will be evaluating how each candidate has leveraged their experience in Emerging Faculty to develop and deliver education and advance their career. We will also consider what you hope to gain through participation in this new course experience.
This experience is strictly limited to 15 individuals to allow for active engagement and involvement throughout the learning journey.
