Key Objectives/Learning Outcomes: In alignment with the 2020 ACC Clinical Competencies for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in Adult Cardiovascular Medicine, at the end of the educational session participants should be able to:
- Understand methods to assess laboratory testing for lipid management which includes differentiating the Friedewald, Martin/Hopkins, and Sampson equation for calculating LDL cholesterol.
- Identify and describe the four statin benefit groups.
- Understand the treatment goals for each statin benefit group which reduce atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk for primary prevention.
- Initiate current pharmacological interventions for secondary prevention in patients with chronic coronary artery disease.
