Key Objectives/Learning Outcomes: In alignment with the 2020 ACC Clinical Competencies for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants in Adult Cardiovascular Medicine, at the end of the educational session participants should be able to:

  1. Understand methods to assess laboratory testing for lipid management which includes differentiating the Friedewald, Martin/Hopkins, and Sampson equation for calculating LDL cholesterol.
  2. Identify and describe the four statin benefit groups.
  3. Understand the treatment goals for each statin benefit group which reduce atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk for primary prevention.
  4. Initiate current pharmacological interventions for secondary prevention in patients with chronic coronary artery disease.
