Cardio-Obstetrics Essentials: Team-Based Management of Cardiovascular Disease and Pregnancy

Join us virtually on Dec. 15 for Cardio-Obstetrics Essentials: Team-Based Management of Cardiovascular Disease and Pregnancy. This interprofessional course is focused on providing a basic to intermediate level of education on the evolving field of cardio-obstetrics including current recommendations for the evaluation, clinical management, treatment, and risk stratification of people with, or at risk for, CV disease during pregnancy.
Cardio-obstetrics is a burgeoning subspecialty within cardiology and there is a growing need for the cardiovascular care team to better understand the impact of diagnosis and treatment on people of child-bearing age. Register today to join our efforts to improve maternal outcomes during Cardio-Obstetrics Essentials.
Statement of Need
CV disease is the leading cause of maternal mortality in the United States. Due to the burden of pre-existing CV disease and risk factors associated with advancing maternal age, maternal morbidity and mortality rates are rising. As treatment paradigms are shifting, there is a need to train members of the CV care team who do not specialize in cardio-obstetrics to ensure better diagnosis and treatment of people of child-bearing age. Cardio-Obstetrics Essentials: Team-Based Management of Cardiovascular Disease and Pregnancy offers the full CV care team necessary education in this field.
Goal
The overall goal is to improve both maternal and fetal outcomes by providing the CV care team with contemporary recommendations for the evaluation, clinical management, treatment, and risk stratification of people with, or at risk for, CV disease during pregnancy.
Target Audience
Members of the interprofessional CV care team who are seeking a basic to intermediate level of information on cardio-obstetrics.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify physiologic changes in pregnancy and considerations for physical examination of pregnant people
- Apply the best management of CV diseases prior to conception, and during and after pregnancy
- Evaluate the indications and safety of multimodality imaging during pregnancy
- Explain CV medication safety during pregnancy and in lactating individuals, and contraceptive recommendations for people with, or at risk for, CV disease
- Implement optimal 4th trimester and long-term CV care for individuals who experience an adverse pregnancy outcome
- Develop competence in creating a multi-disciplinary delivery plan
- Identify and eliminate disparities to improve access to high-quality cardio-obstetrics care
- Review the importance of interprofessional team care in cardio-obstetrics
