Prevention Guidelines Buzz
The November launch of four sets of guidelines by the ACC and the American Heart Association (AHA), in collaboration with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and other specialty societies, provided patients and health care providers with updated, evidence-based information on blood cholesterol control, management of overweight and obesity, risk assessment, and lifestyle management. At the same time, a science advisory released by the ACC, the AHA, and the Centers for Disease Control offered an effective approach to high blood pressure control. Check out CardioSource.org/Prevention for in-depth coverage of the guidelines, including expert commentary, case challenges and resources for patients, physicians and other care providers. Also be on the lookout this month for the ACC/AHA CV Risk Estimator mobile app for smartphones and tablets that will help providers and patients estimate their 10-year and lifetime cardiovascular risk.
