The 8th Emirates Cardiac Society Congress, held in collaboration with ACC Middle East Conference 2017, kicked off in Dubai today, bringing together top experts to discuss and review new, relevant cardiovascular science pertinent to the Middle East.

Co-chaired by William A. Zoghbi, MD, MACC, ACC past president and chair of cardiology at Houston Methodist, and Abdullah Shehab, MB, CHB, FACC, Emirates Cardiac Society president and faculty of medicine at United Arab Emirates University, the conference provides a platform for cardiovascular professionals to increase their knowledge on key topics effecting cardiovascular care throughout the Middle East region. Specifically, global cardiovascular leaders from the U.S., UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Turkey, Pakistan and India will provide insights on the global burden of cardiovascular disease; assessing cardiovascular risk; the perils of tobacco use; new syncope guidelines; the top cardiovascular research from 2017; and more.

ACC President Mary Norine Walsh, MD, FACC, ACC Board of Trustees member Jagat Narula, MD, PhD, MACC, and Franz Messerli, MD, FACC, professor of medicine at Mount Sinai Health in New York, will provide keynote presentations. Prior to the conference, both Walsh and Zoghbi led a pre-conference workshop aimed at developing new leaders, while other conference attendees took the ACC's In-Training Exam.

"By partnering with the Emirates Cardiac Society and our international chapters, the ACC is reaching new communities and expanding our collaboration in leading international scientific research," said Zoghbi. "The conference features original, educational content to better equip the needs of cardiologists throughout the region."
