This year's top 10 clinical trial summaries on ACC.org cover major late breaking studies presented at ACC, ESC, TCT, and AHA – and published in NEJM or Lancet. Incredible that in 2018 we are still learning about aspirin! It was a big year for prevention, especially in lipids and diabetes. There were important advances in electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, and cardiac surgery as well. Overall, 2018 was a great year for clinical trials! Let's hope 2019 brings even more!

The year in ACC.org journal scans is highlighted by the popularity of our key points to remember which pertain to guideline updates, focused updates, and expert consensus documents. As we've become busier and busier in the delivery of cardiovascular care, it is more and more challenging to keep up with advances in care. The journal scan format, particularly with their key points, allows us to keep updated with bite sized information that illustrates the most important content of a larger document. For this past year, the most frequently read journal scans again illustrated the value of these bite sized presentations of more complex topics. The 2018 AHA/ASA stroke management guidelines, the fourth universal definition of MI, the updated Chest guideline for antithrombotic therapy of atrial fibrillation, the guideline for adult congenital heart disease, and the ESC/ESH guideline for management of hypertension represented six of the most frequently visited topics. Additional topics which garnered a high level of readership this year included key points for cryptogenic stroke and patent foramen ovale, the ESC guidelines for the diagnosis and management of syncope, and the AHA scientific statement on atrial fibrillation.

Our goal is to continue to bring you the most important information for the practice of cardiovascular care in formats that are easily accessed and digested. The journal scan format and our more recent podcasts represent but two of these important ways in which we strive to keep our readership up to date in the latest in science that guides cardiovascular care.
