ACC Advocacy Responds to CMS Supervision Scope of Practice Request for Feedback
On Jan. 17, the ACC provided input to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on Medicare regulations that require supervision of advanced practice providers (APPs). In a comment letter, the College highlighted the value of cardiovascular APPs practicing autonomously as part of the cardiovascular care team as collaborative practitioners, and addressed current regulations that are more stringent than state scope or licensure laws. This feedback was provided in response to a request for input to build on the President's Executive Order #13890 on Protecting and Improving Medicare for Our Nation's Seniors.
The ACC and its members have long supported and promoted the use of care teams that include APPs, specifically encouraging collaboration on the cardiovascular rehabilitation, diagnostic tests and patient management fronts. "Cardiovascular team-based care is a paradigm for practice that can transform care, improve heart health, and help meet the demands of the future," the letter explains. Read the full letter.
