ACC Submits Comments Supporting Enhanced AI Health Solutions, Increased Health IT Access
With the needs of patients and their medical care teams in mind, the ACC recently submitted two sets of comments on the use of technology in health care settings.
On March 13, the ACC submitted comments to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the White House in response to their "Guidance for Regulation of Artificial Intelligence." In the comments, the ACC called on the administration to promote policies that place robust clinical evaluation at the core of development and implementation processes for the use of AI-enabled health solutions to improve outcomes, reduce costs, and improve clinician satisfaction.
Similarly, on March 18, ACC submitted comments to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) on the draft 2020 – 2025 Federal Health IT Strategic Plan. The College provided input on ONC's draft plans to improve access to health information, enhance safe and quality care through health IT, reduce regulatory and administrative burdens, and connect care and data through increased interoperability. "The ACC is committed to working with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and ONC on realizing the goal of true interoperability, preventing information blocking, and ensuring patients and clinicians have access to their data through easily accessible, standardized methods," the comments state.
