Poll: Threshold for Intervention on Aortic Root Aneurysm
You are seeing a 60-year-old man with hypertension who was incidentally found to have an aortic root aneurysm measuring 5.2 cm in maximum diameter and maximal ascending aortic diameter of 5.3 cm. He has no family history of thoracic aneurysm or acute aortic syndrome. You do not suspect a genetically triggered aortic condition. Surface echocardiogram shows a tri-leaflet normally functioning aortic valve. He works in construction, and following activity restrictions would be a hardship.
