ACC.14 – A Meeting Honoring Giants of the Past, Present and Future

Welcome to ACC.14! This year marks the 65th Anniversary of the American College of Cardiology and it’s fitting that we are holding our first-ever Annual Scientific Session in the nation’s capital during this important milestone year.

Bernard of Chartres said “that we are like dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, so that we can see more than they, and things at a greater distance, not by virtue of any sharpness on sight on our part, or any physical distinction, but because we are carried high and raised up by their giant size.”As the College celebrates its 65th Anniversary this year, it’s important that we pay tribute to the “giants” of cardiology who came before us – those like Franz Groedel, MD, MACC, Bruno Kisch, MD, MACC, Eliot Corday, MD, MACC, Simon Dack, MD, MACC, and so many others.  It’s also important to look ahead and learn from the “giants” among us, as well as train the “giants” of the future. At ACC.14 we’re doing all three! If you have time to visit the ACC’s Heart House building, you’ll see an amazing new mural gracing the lobby walls depicting the key moments in the College’s history and highlighting some of the amazing leaders who made the College what it is today. As for the giants of today? A quick search of the ACC.14 Meeting App for names like Valentin Fuster, MD, MACC, Eugene Braunwald, MD, MACC, or any of the named keynote lectures will bring up the times and dates for sessions you won’t want to miss!ACC.14 in and of itself is a training ground for the giants of the future. Where else can cardiovascular professionals from around the globe come together in a shared experience. Visit the Fellows in Training, Early Career or CV Team lounges and you’ll find future leaders. Watch the FITs on the GO Blog and you’ll see future leaders in action. This weekend we’ll also honor Young Investigator Award Winners, Merck Research Fellows and other emerging young scientists who will lead us into the future.Washington, DC, is a city that was truly built “on the shoulders of giants.” In addition to celebrating the cardiovascular giants of the past, present and future, I hope you all get an opportunity to visit the memorials and monuments honoring the men and women who shaped the history of the United States. Washington, DC, is a remarkable and beautiful city. Enjoy the city and enjoy ACC.14!
