Kathir Balakumaran, MD

Professional Bio:

Dr Kathir Balakumaran Jr., is a Heart Failure Cardiologist in the Heart and Vascular Institute at Metrohealth Medical Center, Director of the Cardio Oncology Clinic, Associate Program Director of the Cardiovascular Fellowship, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Balakumaran obtained his undergraduate Bachelor of Health Sciences degree with Honours at Western University in London Ontario Canada. He received his medical doctorate from Saba University School of Medicine, in the Netherlands-Antilles. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Metrohealth Medical Center in Cleveland Ohio, his Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the University of Connecticut in Farmington Connecticut, and Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation training at University Hospitals back in Cleveland Ohio. He is currently staff at Metrohealth Medical Center since 2020. Dr. Balakumaran has an interest in inpatient and outpatient management of patients with heart failure, medication titration, and population health. Dr Balakumaran has published extensively in areas related to heart failure medication management, disparities in heart failure treatment, and quality improvement initiatives in increasing utilization of medicines.
