Garima Sharma M.D received her Internal Medicine and Cardiology fellowship training at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia. She was awarded the outstanding Fellow Educator award during her fellowship. She serves on the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Women in Cardiology Leadership Council and has authored several papers on mentoring, sponsorship and advocacy of women in cardiology. She was selected to the prestigious by ACC Leadership Academy 2018. Her interests are medical education, curriculum development, advocacy, wellness and developing non-clinical competencies for trainees. Her clinical and research focus are on gestational and pregnancy related cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular diseases in women. She is studying the risk of future cardiac disease in pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetic women. She is looking incorporating novel biomarkers in predicting pre-eclampsia and cardiovascular dysfunction in pregnancy. Her team is also working on incorporating prevention and cardiovascular risk reduction education in post-partum women. She is the author of several publications on cardio-obstetrics. She has written several articles on mentoring and career development in the Journal of American College of Cardiology (JACC). She also serves as the Section Editor for the Fellows in Training and Early Career Professional page in the JACC, which is currently the premier cardiology journal. Dr. Sharma is a part of several national initiatives for professional development of cardiologists and devotes her time to serve on the leadership council of the Maryland Chapter of ACC as the Treasurer. She has been the educational director of the Mid Atlantic Capitol Cardiology Symposium in 2018 and has presented several abstracts that the National ACC meeting over the years.
