Cardiovascular Team Advanced Practice Registered Nurses Work Group

The Cardiovascular Team Section Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) Work Group would like to solicit the assistance of APRNs who are interested in being more involved with the College. To date, the work group is pursuing the following activities and initiatives:

  • Develop Core Cardiovascular Training Statement For APRNs – As part of our mission, we have begun to lay the ground-work for establishing a post-masters/post-DNP fellowship in cardiology for advanced practice nurses. This will be a major undertaking. I understand that many institutions have various fellowships, but we lack standardization. To develop a generalist curriculum for a fellowship will bring together APRNs from all specialty areas — quite an exciting endeavor. This has the potential then to develop a national examination in years to come.

  • JACC Article on the Role of Cardiovascular APRNs – We have submitted a manuscript to the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) entitled, "The Role of the APRN as a Member of the Cardiovascular Team." The paper is under review and will be a first of its kind in JACC.

  • APRNs at ACC.16 – The work group is seeking pharmaceutical sponsorship for a meet-and-great breakfast in the Cardiovascular Team Section Lounge at ACC's 65th Annual Scientific Sessions (ACC.16) in Chicago, IL. We would also like to host a special poster session in the lounge.

The overarching goal is to increase the visibility and engagement of the APRN membership within the ACC. If you are interested in participating in work group activities, please contact Kristine A. Scordo, PhD, RN, ACNP-BC, at kscordo@cinci.rr.com.
