Reflecting on 2021 University of Colorado HF Conference and Colorado Chapter Annual Meeting

The 2021 University of Colorado Heart Failure Conference and Colorado Chapter Annual Meeting took place Dec. 9 – 10, 2021, at the Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs. This was the 6th year for this joint venture between the Colorado ACC Chapter and the University of Colorado. It was amazing to attend an in-person conference with over 200 people. To ensure Covid comfortability, colored lanyards were distributed. Red lanyards signified no touching, yellow welcomed fist pumping, and green meant “hug it out.”

The two-day conference focused on heart failure and delved into ways to advance quality, equity and value of health care in Colorado. Leaders in advanced heart failure, transplant, and team dynamics gave energizing talks that spurred in deep conversations. To top off the event, a family-friendly reception was held at the Broadmoor, complete with bowling, shuffleboard and a buffet.

The ACC Colorado Chapter Awards were new to the conference. The 2021 winners were:

  • Gene Sherman, MD, FACC, Lifetime Achievement Award and Advocate of the Year.
  • Fred Masoudi, MD, MSPH, MACC, Cardiologist of the Year
  • Jolin Honas, NP, AACC, CVT Member of the Year
  • John Carroll, MD, FACC, Distinguished Service Award

The mood was joyous as long-term colleagues were able to catch up and even shake hands. Panel discussions were hot – no hiding behind a screen or being permanently muted. It was invigorating to take part in such spirited dialogue and intellectual conversation. The Colorado ACC Chapter is thankful to all who attended and appreciates the hard work of the University of Colorado and Chapter members for putting on a superb in-person event.
