The mission of the Cardiology Critical Care Section serves all of the College's strategic aims.

The Section will strive to:

• Enhance the care of critically ill cardiac patients by promoting education, training, clinical care excellence, policy development and research within the maturing field of critical care cardiology.
• Create new and strengthen existing collaborations across cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular specialties by serving as the professional home for all practitioners involved in CICU/ICU care including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, clinical pharmacists, respiratory therapists, dieticians and other cardiovascular team members.
• Develop strategies to highlight the complexity of care seen within the modern CICU and the role of the critical care cardiologist in orchestrating the multidisciplinary response to critical illnesses such as cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, and multi-system organ failure.
• Assess needs and address key gaps in clinical care, education, training/mentorship, research, engagement, and public policy.
• Foster collaborative efforts to develop and enhance training programs for critical care cardiologists and create educational resources to support continuing education and the dissemination of novel developments to all practitioners within the field.
• Provide mentorship for and recruitment of fellows-in-training (FITs) and early career professionals who may be interested in careers in critical care cardiology or whose area of clinical or academic interest includes the care of patients treated within the CICU.

This Section will foster engagement in the College, serving the many allied health members of the CICU team who are currently looking for a place where their voices can be heard and where they can be instrumental in helping to move the field forward.
