The mission of the Sports and Exercise Cardiology Section & Leadership Council are closely aligned to the American College of Cardiology mission. The Section and Leadership Council have the following objectives:

  • Articulate the current needs and opportunities for sports and exercise cardiology from an educational, research, development and application of standards and guidelines, and public outreach and health care policy perspective
  • Serve as a conduit for information and action regarding the cardiovascular care of athletes, and support constructive and enhanced interactions with all interested stakeholders
  • Participate in the dialogue regarding public policy, advising on issues specific to the cardiovascular care of athletes and exercising individuals. Promote the availability of AED at athletic events and awareness of the heart during pre-participation examinations
  • Enhance opportunities for multidisciplinary training to improve interpretation cardiac testing in athletes and exercising individuals.
