Made possible through the Wael Al Mahmeed Dedication to Young Leaders program, the Global Leadership Institute (GLI) brings together a distinguished cohort of early/mid-career cardiologists from around the world for an immersive, fully funded leadership development program in Washington, D.C. Through learning, collaboration, and engagement with ACC leaders, participants gain the skills and connections needed to drive meaningful impact within their institutions and in the global cardiovascular communities.
GLI creates a unique environment for emerging cardiovascular leaders from around the world to share experiences, explore common leadership challenges, and learn from one another's diverse perspectives. Through interactive workshops, facilitated discussions, case studies, and collaborative exercises, participants gain practical frameworks and real-world insights that strengthen their ability to lead effectively and drive positive change within their organizations and communities.
Applications for the 2027 Global Leadership Institute are currently being accepted and will remain open through Sept. 30, 2026.

Additionally, participants must actively practice outside the U.S., be current ACC members, and be comfortable communicating in English, as active participation in discussions, workshops, and networking activities is an essential component of the program.
Every ACC International Chapter is provided with the opportunity to nominate a participant, typically, every other year. Additionally, several spots are available through a competitive application process for qualified ACC international members. This pathway provides an opportunity for individuals to distinguish themselves through the quality of their application, leadership experiences and vision for advancing cardiovascular health. We encourage those interested to apply!
There is no registration fee for the program. Selected participants receive full financial support, including roundtrip airfare, lodging, meals, and program-related activities.
