What's New with ACC-i2 with TCT?
The American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session & Expo (ACC.12), March 24 – 27 in Chicago, includes an ACC-i2 with TCT Learning Pathway program, which provides everything you need to stay on the leading edge of interventional and invasive cardiology, says E. Murat Tuzcu, MD, FACC, chair of ACC-i2 with TCT.
The Pathway includes five focused tracks: coronary heart disease, endovascular, imaging, structural heart disease, and special topics. In the endovascular track, experts will share endovascular therapies for peripheral arterial and venous disease — both the advances and the controversies. Other sessions include the Renal Interventions for Hypertension and Renal Function Preservation symposium and the Peripheral Arterial Disease: Critical Limb Ischemia symposium. Other sessions of interest to ACC-i2 with TCT participants include Platelet Inhibition: What You Need to Know; Vascular Access Outcomes Following PCI for ACS: What You Need to Know; and state-of-the-art sessions for left main coronary intervention, STEMI and N-STEMI, says Tuzcu.
ACC-i2 with TCT will also provide insight into the uses of high-tech imaging tools with sessions such as the Intravascular Imaging: Restenosis, Thrombosis and Stent symposium or the Imaging Transcatheter Mitral Valve Procedures symposium. Attendees can also discover emerging techniques for dealing with structural heart disease. For example, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) will be featured in several sessions, including the TAVR - Procedural Aspects and Best Practices Symposium on Saturday. The Clinically Oriented Anatomy for the Structural Heart Interventionalist symposiums, offered as remote demonstrations by Mark Reisman, MD, FACC, are also expected to be of interest to those taking part in the structural heart track.
As always, attendees will have access to the most important, cutting-edge cardiovascular research during the Late-Breaking Clinical Trials. In addition, ACC-i2 with TCT offers special sessions for the whole cardiac care team, beginning with the Cardiac Care Team Session 1: Keynote Address on Sunday, March 25, and continuing through Tuesday with the Structural Heart Disease – Mitral Valve symposium, one of five live cases planned. Two other special sessions focus on multi-disciplinary management of the failing heart with team-based evaluation and therapy of advanced heart disease, parts I and II.
ACC-i2 with TCT also involves partnerships with specialty societies around the globe. For example, the Advances and Controversies in Carotid, Aortic and Peripheral Arterial Disease Symposium, which takes place on Saturday, March 24, is a collaborative effort with the Society of Vascular Surgery. On Monday, ACC-i2 with TCT shares the podium with several international societies for the international lunchtime sessions.

The Latest in Congenital Cardiology at ACC.12
Congenital Cardiology Solutions (CCS) is once again a featured Learning Pathway during ACC.12. This year's programming and content highlights the importance of the continuum of care of the congenital heart disease (CHD) patient, from birth through the various stages of adulthood. Educational sessions underscore how critical it is for all members of the CHD team to work together. The programming addresses the significant clinical issues and questions faced regularly by the cardiovascular professionals who treat patients with congenital heart disease.
The CCS program begins early on Saturday, March 24, with the symposium on Complex Issues Facing ACHD Patients: Obstructive Lesions. This will be followed by the Quality, Safety and Resources Enhancing Pediatric Cardiovascular Care symposium and the symposium on Updates on Care in the Congenital Heart Disease Patients. These three sessions represent the stepping stones in a four-day program that includes the symposium regarding Women with CHD: Fertility, Pregnancy and Menopause: Not All Palpitations Are Cardiac. A Great Debates program features debates on the treatment of newborns with SVT, pulmonary valve replacement in TOF, and the use of stimulants in patients with CHD. Other sessions will focus on:

Go Global at ACC.12
Get a global perspective on cardiovascular care with a wide array of International Sessions at ACC.12. This year's annual scientific session will feature more international events than ever, bringing cardiologists from all over the world together to discuss the latest innovations in cardiovascular care.
ACC.12 will span the globe with two joint sessions with the European Society of Cardiology on management of heart disease in pregnancy and pros and cons of new approaches for antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapy; a session on the Mediterranean Diet featuring the world's premiere Greek cardiologists; and a prevention focused session by the China Chapter. There will also be two Chapter Twinning Sessions between the British Cardiovascular Society and California Chapter and the Italian Federation of Cardiology and Pennsylvania Chapter.
Back by popular demand, ACC.12 will also feature 18 international lunchtime symposia, which are jointly sponsored with cardiology societies around the world. In addition, the 2012 Maseri-Florio International Lecture will feature Antonio Colombo, MD, FACC, of Milan, Italy, a global leader in intervention who pioneered the concept of adequate stent deployment during coronary interventions. The lecture entitled Personal Insights Leading to Scientific Developments will take place on Monday, March 26 from 2 – 3 p.m.
The ACC will also present Antonio P. Chagas, MD, FACC, with this year's International Service Award during convocation. Chagas was chosen for this prestigious award for his commitment to enhancing cardiovascular care and education in medically developing or underdeveloped countries. Following convocation, attendees can attend the ACC.12 President's, All Chapter, New Fellows and Associates Reception, which offers opportunities to socialize and connect with fellows from around the world.
Also this year, all International ACC Chapters will be provided with a special booth area to network with colleagues from their country and other international attendees. In between sessions, the International Lounge will also be available to relax and learn about the multitude of international ACC initiatives and partnerships.

International Member Looks Forward to ACC.12
CardioSourceNews sat down with Sarah C. Clarke, MA, MD, FRCP, FESC, FACC, vice president of education and research at the British Cardiovascular Society in London, to learn how she became involved with the ACC and what she's most looking forward to at ACC.12 in Chicago from an international perspective.
