ACC Signs-On to Joint Letter Addressing Sequestration Provision and SGR Cuts

Coinciding with the action on the Hill as part of the 2012 ACC Legislative Conference, the College also signed-on to a joint letter urging Congress to nullify the Budget Control Act’s (BCA) sequestration provision and the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula. The letter reaffirms the medical community’s commitment to high-quality, high-value, coordinated care and highlights the importance of providing a stable payment environment for health care professionals in order to propel medical innovation. Across-the-board cuts to essential programs that promote high quality care and patient access are also addressed in the letter.

The letter stresses that these BCA cuts could not come at a worse time for health care providers. “The combination of a sequestration cut and looming Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate payment cut would not only impede improvements to our health care system, it could lead to serious access to care issues for Medicare patients as well as employment reductions in medical practices,” the letter states.
