The FDA approved Epaned, a liquid form of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor enalapril maleate, to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and children over one month old. Until now, enalapril has only been available in adult doses and was adjusted to treat children. The International Pediatric Hypertension Association estimates that up to 5 percent of children and adolescents may suffer from high blood pressure.
