New Accountable Care Organization Opportunity

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will introduce a new participation opportunity, Track One Plus, within the Medicare Shared Savings Program in 2019. This new opportunity differs from Track One because it allows the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) to assume downside risk. Track One Plus qualifies as an Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM), providing clinicians with an additional opportunity for participation in an Advanced APM as part of the Quality Payment Program, initiated by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). Tracks Two and Three also qualify. Interested ACOs will need to submit a letter of intent by May 2017. Additionally, Track One ACOs can apply to transition to Track One Plus. Find more information on APMs currently available here. Access the CMS Educational Library here.
