FDA Update: Update on Puerto Rico IV Saline Shortage

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued an update on the continued shortage of IV saline in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. The Agency expects the shortage to improve in the coming months and is working with manufacturers, including Baxter and B. Braun, to allow Puerto Rican facilities to fully operate. The FDA is also investigating possible additional import locations and expects an increased supply in the U.S. market due to recent approvals of IV saline products from other companies. The Agency will continue closely monitoring product supply and mitigation strategies and will issue additional updates as needed.
