Heart of Health Policy | CMS News: Proposed Physician Fee Schedule to Be Released This Month

Each year in July the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) releases its proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, addressing Medicare payment and quality provisions for physicians for the coming fiscal year. Once released, the ACC’s Advocacy Team reviews the rule and communicates the highlights of importance to the cardiology profession to members. In addition, the ACC’s Health Affairs Committee, working with ACC Advocacy staff, works to draft and submit formal comments to CMS as part of the public comment period. The final rule, based on feedback and comments from physicians and societies like the ACC, is typically released in late October.

As of press time, ACC Advocacy staff were still awaiting the proposed 2019 Physician Fee Schedule, as well as the proposed 2019 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System rule, from CMS. Stay tuned to ACC.org/Advocacy, as well as ACC’s Advocate email newsletter, in the coming weeks to be notified of the rules’ release and stay up-to-date on their impacts to cardiology. ACC members interested in Advocacy issues are also encouraged to follow @Cardiology on Twitter for breaking news, FDA alerts, Quality Payment Program tips, state legislative efforts and more.
