2018 Legislative Conference Wrap-Up

On behalf of your ACC Advocacy staff, thank you to all who attended and contributed to ACC's 2018 Legislative Conference! With a record number of attendees and an action-packed agenda, this year's Legislative Conference was truly one for the ages.

During the immersive three-day advocacy training, participants discussed regulatory updates, approaches to state advocacy, relationship-building and more. One key session highlighted ACC's response to changes contained within the proposed 2019 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule. Access a deep dive into the College's feedback on documentation changes to evaluation and management visits, updates to the Quality Payment Program and the appropriate use criteria program for advanced imaging, among other key areas on ACC.org.

Another session on utilizing social media in grassroots advocacy highlighted innovative methods to reach policymakers and members of Congress. This unique session featured a dynamic group activity in which participants developed social media advocacy strategies to bring back to their practices. Additionally, the session promoted ACC resources to help individuals and ACC Chapters jump start their own social media advocacy campaigns. Get the basics on harnessing the power of social media in your grassroots advocacy efforts in the ACC Social Media Advocacy Toolkit.

In face-to-face meetings on the Hill, participants were able to thank members of Congress and their staff for votes in favor of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, request continued congressional oversight of issues that adversely affect patient care and contribute to administrative burden and urge ongoing support for public health and medical research. This year, there was also an enhanced focus on the collaborative efforts of the ACC and partner cardiovascular societies and how we can accomplish more when we work together.
