FDA Warns Against Use of Preowned, Unauthorized Test Strips

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned against the use of previously owned or unauthorized test strips that help patients monitor certain conditions, including those that monitor blood glucose in diabetes patients or the international normalized ratio in patients on warfarin therapy. Preowned test strips and strips that are unauthorized for sale in the U.S. could lead to inaccurate results, potentially cause infection and increase the risk of injury to patients. The FDA recommends clinicians discuss these risks with patients and provide referrals to programs that can help patients access affordable test strips. Read the full FDA alert here.
