The ACC submitted formal comments to the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology (IT) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) addressing proposed rules related to advancing and improving electronic health record interoperability and information blocking requirements, respectively.

While the letters applaud efforts by CMS and ONC to improve interoperability and address issues related to data sharing, they also note that the proposed changes represent "a seismic shift" in the health IT landscape and patients and providers will need time to adjust.

The final rules are expected this fall.
