ACC Joins in Calls For Trump Administration to Uphold Complete Ban on Flavored E-Cigarettes

The ACC has joined with more than 50 other medical and public health groups urging First Lady Melania Trump and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar to retain the proposed full ban on flavored e-cigarettes. Recent reports have suggested that the Administration may allow mint and menthol flavors to remain on the market.

The letters highlight evidence from the 2019 National Youth Tobacco Survey showing the popularity of mint and menthol e-cigarettes among roughly 64 percent of high school e-cigarette users. "A policy that does not remove all flavored e-cigarettes will not solve the current epidemic of youth e-cigarette use. Youth who now use mint and menthol e-cigarettes will continue to do so, and youth who use flavors that are removed from the market will simply switch to mint and menthol," the groups write.

Back in September, the College also joined many of these same public health groups in letters to the First Lady and President Donald Trump commending the Administration for the flavor ban and expressing full support. "If this plan is swiftly and fully implemented, it will play a critical role in reversing the youth e-cigarette epidemic," the letters stated.

The ACC strongly supports removing all flavored e-cigarettes from the market, as initially proposed by the Trump Administration.
