ACC/HRS Memo Aims to Clarify Coding for Remote Interrogation Device Evaluation

Given confusion regarding the proper claim coding for remote interrogation device evaluations, which includes CPT 93297 and 93298 and HCPCS G2066 (formerly CPT 93299), the ACC and Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) have created a 2020 Coding Memo for practices to attach to claim appeals and share with local payers. The memo highlights the January 2020 decision by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to require Medicare Administrative Contractors to use the new contractor-priced HCPCS G2066 code in place of the deleted CPT 93299 code. Additionally, it notes the subsequent American Medical Association Coding Update advising clinicians to use the appropriate professional code (CPT 93297 or 93298) and/or the complementary technical code (HCPCS G2066) when coding for this service. The memo strongly encourages payers to value HCPCS G2066 at the 2019 rate of CPT 93299. Get the memo.
