Call For Applications: JACC: Basic to Translational Science Editor in Chief

The ACC is seeking its next editor in chief for JACC: Basic to Translational Science (JACC: BTS), an exciting leadership opportunity for a visionary and dynamic thinker eager to shape the future of cardiovascular basic to translational science.

JACC: BTS has established itself as a leading journal in translational science and is poised for a bold evolution. With the journal's platform ideally positioned to propel the field forward, the College is seeking an individual with a compelling vision for addressing the greatest needs in cardiovascular basic and translational research and identifying gaps in the current journal landscape. It is anticipated that the journal will have an opportunity to broaden its reach to include critical fields such as early-stage science, bioengineering, drug/device discovery and technology, and omics. The editor in chief will be able to shape how JACC: BTS can best serve the community and advance its role as a leader in basic and translational science.

Why Lead JACC: BTS?
This role is more than leading a journal; it is about becoming a global leader in cardiovascular basic and translational science and making a major impact on the field. The editor in chief will:

  • Oversee the publication of research spanning basic to applied science that could ultimately impact patient care through new therapies and technologies.
  • Shape the future of innovative research by integrating early-stage science, first-in-human investigations, artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioengineering, and multi-omics, among others.
  • Collaborate across disciplines, bringing together clinicians, engineers, and scientists to solve real-world challenges.
  • Drive a culture of excellence in cardiovascular publishing and innovation within an evolving digital publishing landscape.
  • Inspire and mentor the next generation of researchers, cultivating talent and encouraging junior colleagues worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define the Vision: Lead the journal with a forward-thinking approach. Share your vision for the opportunities and challenges in basic and translational cardiovascular science.
  • Oversee the Editorial Process: Select associate editors and an informed editorial board, solicit high impact manuscripts, facilitate timely and constructive review, provide transparent communications, work closely with journal staff and the publisher, and ensure the highest quality of publications for JACC: BTS.
  • Collaborate Across the JACC Portfolio: Integrate JACC: BTS within the broader JACC family of journals, elevating the entire group by fostering coordination, collaboration, and idea generation.
  • Innovate in Medical Publishing: Explore opportunities to leverage digital tools and platforms to increase the journal's global impact and reach.
  • Engage with the Community: Act as a leader and advocate for cardiovascular research, fostering global engagement and impact.

Qualifications:

  • A leader with demonstrated expertise in cardiovascular research and a strong background in one or more related fields, such as basic research, translational research, biomedical engineering, or clinical science.
  • A proven track record in academic publishing, including editorial experience and a robust network within the research community.
  • A strong vision for advancing innovation and translating basic science into clinical practice.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate the journal's mission and engage diverse authors, readers and stakeholders.
  • An aspiration for major positive impact on cardiovascular health, and a commitment to accelerating progress.
  • An appetite for innovation and a willingness to try new ideas, with appropriate attention to evaluating and iterating new approaches.
  • Ability to dedicate 30% of professional time to the role.
