Fred M. Kusumoto, MD, FACC, Named ACC Clinical Content Editor-in-Chief

The ACC is pleased to announce that Fred M. Kusumoto, MD, FACC, has been appointed as the Clinical Content Editor-in-Chief. In this role, Kusumoto will oversee and coordinate the majority of non-CME clinical content developed for and shared on ACC.org and other member communication channels, ensuring the timely dissemination of trusted and accessible information to ACC members worldwide.
Specifically, Kusumoto will be responsible for advancing the College's efforts to provide valuable news and clinical updates for the cardiovascular community, including journal scans, clinical trial updates, scientific meeting coverage and more.
"I'm excited to build on the strong foundation laid by those before me by providing a broad range of audience-specific, trustable, and accessible information to physicians, CV Team members, and other learners, including premed college students, about cutting-edge cardiovascular research, education, and all that the College is doing to advance its Mission," says Kusumoto.
Currently a Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Jacksonville, FL, Kusumoto brings extensive experience in cardiovascular research and clinical education. After earning his medical degree from the University of California San Diego Medical School, he completed his training at the University of California, San Francisco. His research focuses on health care outcomes and quality of life in electrophysiology procedures, particularly in elderly patients, as well as the use of implantable cardiac devices.
Outside of clinical work, Kusumoto has held numerous leadership positions within the ACC, including chair of the ACC Scientific Publications Committee, chair of the NCDR LAAO Registry Steering Committee, past governor of ACC’s Florida Chapter and co-chair of the ACC Asia regional conference. He has authored several books and more than 150 peer-reviewed journal articles, along with serving as lead author of multiple ACC clinical documents, including the 2018 Bradycardia Guideline and the 2014 Expert Consensus Statement on ICD Use.
"Close collaboration with the College's Member Sections, JACC Journal editors, Cardiology magazine editors and other key stakeholders will be critical to this role," says Kusumoto. "I look forward to continuing the work of Immediate-Past Editor-in-Chief Kim A. Eagle, MD, MACC, by providing valuable resources for the global cardiovascular community, ensuring that everyone can quickly and easily consume the latest science and apply these learnings to patient care."
