Survey Indicates International FIT Satisfaction With the ACC

The majority of ACC International Fellows in Training (FITs) are both very/extremely familiar with the College and very/extremely satisfied, according to a recent ACC survey of International FIT members. Satisfaction was highest among FITs in the Asia Pacific region (86 percent), as well as in the South America/Central America/Caribbean region (80%).

Nearly 75 percent of survey respondents said they highly value and use ACC educational products, including free online access to JACC Journals, ACC/AHA clinical guidelines and free access to ACC.org. Networking opportunities and in-person educational programs and conferences also ranked highly in terms of most used and/or most valued ACC offerings.

While 44 percent of those surveyed said they would likely continue as dues-paying members after their training has been completed, more than 75 percent noted the costs of membership as the primary barrier to continued membership. More than 65 percent of International FITs recommended the College provide additional support in the areas of clinical education (65 percent), practice guidelines (63 percent) and research/publishing opportunities (59 percent). They also noted a need for a fellowship training program for international cardiologists and improved access to educational programs conferences.

The ACC will use the results from the survey to inform efforts, working with International Chapters, to engage and retain international FITs going forward.
