As part of the College’s ongoing commitment to the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and in alignment with ACC’s Vision of a world where innovation and knowledge optimize cardiovascular care and outcomes, the ACC has launched a new Global Heart Attack Treatment Initiative. The initiative was launched to coincide with the third United Nations (UN) High-Level Meeting on NCDs, which is taking place Sept. 27 in New York.

The Global Heart Attack Treatment Initiative aims to apply the lessons learned from the drastic decrease in morbidity and mortality from myocardial infarction in the U.S. over the past 25 years and apply best practices across all of ACC’s 42 International Chapters spanning over 80 countries worldwide in a way that is customized for differently-resourced settings. The initiative will be aligned with data collection from ACC’s Chest Pain-MI Registry and interventions will be localized for the unique needs of each health system.

Through the initiative, the College hopes to move the needle on deaths related to cardiovascular disease in alignment with the World Health Organization ‘25 by 25’ goal looking to drive a 25 percent decrease in premature mortality from NCDs by 2025 as well as with the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
