Statement of Need

Advances in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease (CVD) have yielded remarkably positive results, including a steady decline in CVD mortality across the globe. However, despite this remarkable progress, CVD remains the leading cause of death throughout the world and its prevalence remains high, making it a global public health priority and an intensive focus of research. Such research has led to new evidence that continues to accrue surrounding disease pathophysiology as well as strategies to enhance CVD prevention, evaluation and treatment. As care of the patient with CVD becomes more complex, it is imperative that cardiovascular professionals have an opportunity for a comprehensive review of evidence-based practices and exposure to state-of-the-art updates, innovative techniques and translational research on the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease.

Target Audience

This conference is intended for practicing cardiologists and fellows in training in the Middle East region.

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate appropriate interpretation of cardiovascular guidelines and diagnostic strategies needed in daily practice.
  • Describe the best practices in the treatment of patients with heart failure.
  • Identify prevention strategies for treating cardiovascular disease including CV risk assessment and risk reduction strategies.
  • Apply the latest evidence to the evaluation, medical management and surgical treatment of patients with valvular heart disease.
  • Evaluate current treatment strategies in the investigation and management of coronary artery disease.
  • Identify best practices for the management of patients with atrial and ventricular arrhythmias.
  • Demonstrate improved ECG interpretation skills.

Conference Overall Goal

The overall goal of this conference is to examine emerging trends and evidence-based strategies as well as contemporary best practices resulting in guideline-driven, practical cardiovascular prevention and management for patients with cardiovascular disease.

Highlights from the ACC Middle East Conference 2018

"I was honored and pleased to have my work recognized by ACC, and grateful for the opportunity to present it in New Orleans. At the congress I saw firsthand how hard ACC is working to make sure that every talented person has a chance to contribute to science. And it's working: I saw groundbreaking research published by mothers, and Spanish speakers, and people from developing countries, and lots of others who fifty years ago would never get a chance... All of us are smarter than any of us."
Dr. Maia P Smith – 2018 ACC International Conferences Abstract Winner

"Being part of such an event has been an invaluable experience, it made me feel confident in the work we can do in a developing nation, no matter the limited resources. Thanks to the ACC for expanding its reach and making us part of it."
Luis V. Martin Jimenez – 2018 ACC International Conferences Abstract Winner

"As a medical student, being an international poster awardee in the ACC and having the honer to present my research poster in such a great conference meant to me a lot. It made me more confident and more excited and determinant to reach my academic goals. In addition to that, presenting my poster in the ACC allowed me to have an informative discussions with great cardiologists from all over the world and inspired me with more research projects ideas. The scientific sessions helped me explore the cardiology world further and made me amazed by how science grows faster than we easily can catch up with. Simply, attending the ACC 19 was one of my biggest and best 2019 experiences."
