Feature | Designing, Leading and Achieving With ACC’s Quality Summit
Supplying clinicians spanning the entire cardiovascular care team with the tools, resources and insights needed to design, lead and achieve the highest quality care at their institutions was the focus of ACC Quality Summit 2024, held Sept. 17-19 in San Antonio, TX.
Chaired by Olivia N. Gilbert, MD, MSc, FACC, the Quality Summit provided a unique forum for participants to gain NCDR-specific knowledge along with a deeper understanding of the value of accreditation and ways patient data can drive process improvement.
"This year's meeting was chock full of information relevant to all cardiovascular team members involved in quality, administration and team management," said Gilbert. "Attendees gained actionable insights, meaningful connections and hands-on knowledge that they can apply to enhance health care quality in their own organizations."
ACC Chief Innovation Officer Ami B. Bhatt, MD, FACC, opened the Summit as this year's Ralph G. Brindis Keynote speaker, delving into the real-world application of collaborative intelligence and potential impacts on cardiovascular quality insights.
She also touched on how artificial intelligence can enable cardiovascular technology to be more effective and user friendly, and how technology can improve the delivery of guideline-directed medical therapy.

Nearly 40 educational sessions provided additional insights into hot topics such as best practices in mortality review, improving transparency through public reporting, and quality improvement as a career path.
NCDR-specific tracks shared tips for understanding left atrial atrial appendage occlusion procedures and associated data elements; mitigating acute kidney injury following PCI; implementing the 2023 Atrial Fibrillation Guideline and more.
Other tracks included sessions for those interested in accreditation, including a sneak peek at the new Chest Pain Center Accreditation model and an abstract session focusing on quality improvement initiatives informed by the accreditation process.
In addition, the leadership track covered issues such as using NCDR data in physician contracts, operational considerations for hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers, and driving interventional and electrophysiology quality growth.
Beyond the education sessions, the Quality Summit included opportunities for networking, interactive learning, celebrating quality improvement successes and more! Summit attendees met with fellow health care professionals at the meeting's official networking event, accessed the latest data abstraction solutions through exhibitors at the Summit Showcase and continued learning through more than 100 ePosters on display.
"ACC Quality Summit is a vital gathering for the quality improvement community," said Gilbert. "It's where we share ideas, learn from each other and drive real improvements in patient care."
The hope, according to Gilbert, is that participants leave the conference with best practices and a range of tools and techniques to improve health care quality at their respective institutions.
Save the date for next year's Quality Summit in Denver, CO, from Oct. 14-16, 2025.
