Established in 2005, the Douglas P. Zipes Distinguished Young Scientist Award is offered annually to recognize a young physician scientist who has made outstanding contributions to the field of cardiovascular disease and amassed an impressive body of scientific research in the basic or clinical domain.

One awardee is selected each year and receives the following in recognition of their accomplishments:

• An Invitation to present their scientific work at the ACC Annual Scientific Session
• Complimentary registration for the ACC Annual Scientific Session, along with coverage of travel-related expenses for the duration of the meeting (e.g., airfare, hotel, and ground transportation)
• Recognition at the ACC Annual Scientific Session
• Acknowledgement as the awardee in ACC communications
• A monetary prize of $1,000

Eligibility

• Eligible nominees are those who have been faculty members for no more than six years after finishing their postdoctoral clinical and research training
• Eligible nominees must not currently hold full professor status
• Nominees need not be widely known
• ACC membership is not required at the time of nomination

Nominations Process

To nominate a candidate for this award, the nominator must submit the following through the ACC's online award submission site by May 28, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET:

• A nominating letter highlighting the nominee's research and professional experiences and qualifications relevant to the award
• Up to three supporting letters highlighting the writer's professional connection(s) to the nominee and why they believe the nominee is deserving of the award
• Nominee's curriculum vitae
• Nominee's list of top 10 publications with a link to their up-to-date Google Scholar listing

Nominations must be completed in the online submission site by May 28, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Notifications will be sent by the end of August 2026.
